Absolutely wonderful
I use this on my MacBook, so the timer function (which doubtless is handy if one is using an iPhone or iPad in the kitchen) is not much use to me. But everthing else is wonderful. I have downloaded and hand-entered many recipes now, and my experience is quite positive.
I had been saving recipes as Word documents in a Recipes folder, and of course one faces the problem of conversion. Paprika Recipe Manager (PRM) does have an import function, but I have taken this approach: any new recipe goes into PRM from the outset, and whenever I use one of my old recipes, I bring it over to PRM, creating a new recipe and using copy and paste for ingredients and method. It’s trivially easy, and over time the old recipes I use move into PRM.
The scaling function turns out to be very useful. For example, I have a recipe for lamb meatballs that calls for 1 lb ground lamb, but my supermarket sells ground lamb prepackaged in 12-oz packages, so I just scaled the recipe to 3/4.
The more I use PRM, the moer I like it. The Menu planner turns out to be very handy in practice: when I want to make a recipe, I can easily drag it to a day where I’ve not yet planned a meal, scheduling it.
The shopping list function works well: you see all ingredients for the recipe, and you can uncheck those you have on hand, then add the remainder to your shopping list. A shopping list can consist of ingredients needed for several recipes: you just add the recipes one by one.
Great program. Very happy with it.
