Paprika Recipe Manager App Reviews

Fabulous!

Paprika is, without question, the single best recipe manager I’ve ever encountered… and I’ve been looking for a while. Rich in features, the more I use it, the more perks I discover. I regularly enjoy: - Importing online recipes with a single touch - Amazing, highly customizable organizational options - Planning meals for weeks at a time with a drag and drop - Compiling grocery lists straight from recipes - Checking my “Pantry” in-app while shopping to avoid buying unnecessary ingredients. - Using the in-recipe timers to properly cook dishes with a single touch - Exporting and sharing recipes via email and paper printing - A screen-shutdown override function to aid me in never touching my screens with sticky fingers mid-recipe Yes, the pantry function could stand to be built out with more items, perhaps expiration dates, etc. But that’s a minor tweak within an overall fabulous app! The cost per device is *extremely* reasonable for this app… For less than $40 my recipes are all easy to read, consolidated, organized, backed up, and accessible at all times. Worth FAR MORE than I paid!

Best recipe app

Hands down, my favorite recipe I’ve tried and used for OS X and iOS. I primarily use the iOS app, but at times I need to more quickly be able to edit my recipes and the OS X version does the job. That being said, the OS X app feels a bit behind the iOS version. They could definitely update the interface to be a little more user friendly and uniform with the visual style of OS X.

Could be the best if:

I’ve used Paprika for almost two years now. It is where my complete library of recipes is now. I really like the product. Then why didn’t I give it “5” Stars instead of “4”? It is still missing two major features that they said where coming but are still not there. Those features are the ability to add pictures in the directions and Notes section and be able to bold and underline text in those same areas. Both of these things are important and would make this produce complete. I can only hope that they come soon. The developers have made great strides in being able to bring recipes into the database. Thanks for your efforts there. I think you’ve got that mastered now. Please add these other two promised features and the product would be unbeatable.

Excellent - just needs a Safari share extension

I love this app and use it for hundreds of recipes that I’ve accumulated over the years. I’ve been using it for several years now and it is just fantastic and is truly a staple, I think, for anyone who loves to cook. The developers are very responsive as well. Being able to automatically download recipes straight from many of the recipe websites I follow is SO helpful - I’m sure I wouldn’t save half of the recipes I have without this feature! Having the Shopping Cart feature tied in rounds everything out perfectly, and I especially love the feature where items are grouped by aisle. In addition to using this as my recipe catalog, I also use this as my general shopping list app for everything I need to buy at the grocery store. From collecting a recipe online, to shopping for the ingreditents, and to bringing them home and putting it all together, this app really has everything. I love a rounded-out multiplatform app that “just works” between devices, and for the years I’ve used it Paprika has definitely been that kind of app. Only thing I would say this needs is a Safari share extension like the iOS version already has. I’ve grown used to hitting the “Send to Paprika” extension in Safari on my iPad and would love it on OS X too! And if there’s a way to categorize the app from a Safari extension on both apps (which is something not even the iOS version has), that would be extra helpful. I have all my recipes in at least one category, and having the option to throw new recipes into a category I first send them to Paprika via a Safari extension would be helpful! As it is now I have to go through the “Uncategorized” category every now and then, which isn’t the worst thing, but being able to avoid that in the future would be helpful. Thanks!

Amazing

This app is simply amazing. I have used it for years. It syncs flawlessly and is very stable. This latest updated added natural language support for saving recipes from unknown websites. It works great! WOW!

Custom Entries to Pantry List

I have been using the phone version of the app for a couple of years now, and I love it. I recently purchased the Mac version so I can access it via my laptop computer, and I find it incredibly convenient to use. Currently, my only suggestion would be to add the ability to enter custom items into the pantry section. Example: BBQ Sauce, Hickory Smoked BBQ Sauce, Honey BBQ Sauce, etc. It would also be nice to be able to list the number / amount of an item you have in your pantry. Example: 5 eggs, 2 pounds Chedder Cheese (blocked). Just being able to enter specifics, and not having to rely on a database of pantry items (that doesn’t list all possible pantry items) would be wonderful and it would make this app fantastic! Thanks!

Good App But Needs an Update

I’ve been using this app for a while and it performs well and is very useful. But note that it has been almost a year without an update and frankly there is some functionality that would improve it. I have contacted them several times with suggestions and of course always get the response that they plan to add in the future. Here is what I think it needs (in order of importance): 1) Filter using multiple categories (the big one) 2) Ability to link from within recipe to another database recipe 3) Ability to customize pantry items 4) Ability to search using any column headers (not just Title, Ingredient and Source) 5) Ability to search using a combination of column headers 6) More text format options 7) Abiity to scale amounts in Directions not just Ingredients 8) Ability to add/hide columns Once you start getting thousands of recipes, filter and search capability becomes a key functionality for ease of use. Add the items above (even just #1) and I would be willing to purchase this app a second time.

Language update is awesome

I’ve been using Paprika for a couple of years. The recent update has made it effortless to save a recipe from a website - no more highlight-and-paste. Thanks for that!

Works great but some important features still missing.

This is a great app. I just recently discovered baking and have saved lots of recipes. I have been using this app for 6 months across 6 devices (all Apple). Syncing works flawless. So far everything works fine. There are some features though that I hope the developers will add soon, which are 1. the ability to view all photos in GRID view or even in different kinds of views, slide show etc. The current pictures are quite small and even though they get larger when you click on them it is just not that convenient. Grid view would save all those extra clicks. 2. the ability to add more pictures instead of just 1 3. the ability to attach attachments. 4. the ability to filter several words instead of one word when searching in every source. Not only when searching by ingredients. 5. the ability to search in all other sources e.g directions, meals, url. I haven’t seen any improvements and updates since I have been using this app. I hope the developers will add some more creativity to this application soon.

I absolutely LOVE this application

I use Paprika every single day. I just want everyone to know you will not regret your purchase. There are so many wonderful features; it is very fun to use and has all kinds of practical features. It has really helped me be more organized and healthy. I could go on and on and on but I will just say that I cannot understand why anyone would give this less than a pefect rating. I’m serious! Happy cooking and organizing!

No nutritional value calculations

I rate this 4 stars because it is an excellent recipe App, however, I would like to see it taken one step further and include the ability to auto calculate nutritional values. But overall it is a great app!

Must Get!

I bought this app a few months ago. And I will admit I was skeptical paying for it. But I absolutely fell in love with it. The navigation is so easy and you can save recipes from basically any website! You can use the websites they offer you as a guide or go off on your own. Now, I am not a cooking enthusiast, I am lover of eating and I got this app because I wanted to be able to make something at home that wasn’t just a bowl of cereal. Since I’ve gotten the app, I have fooled my parents into thinking that I ordered some of the delicious meals I’ve made from restaurants. Albiet anything from shrimp, to burgers, to salmon, to pot roast. But this app isn’t going to turn you into a master chef; you must have some small part of you really has a passion for cooking, or for wanting to make your own meals. I guess I’d say you have to be willing to get inspired. But the app breaks everything down for you, and even allows you to save the ingredients of a recipe into a shopping list that you can use as a checklist later. This app inspired me to cook things I never thought I could. And now that I know how to do basic recipes, I am on a mission to learn how to cook healthy delicious meals that don’t make me cringe to eat, which will help me with my side goal of starting to meal prep my weeks. But I couldn’t have done it without Paprika! This app is like your tour guide in a foreign country, and it’s definitely better to have a guide than quit because you’re confused or lost. Must get!!!

Ok, could be better

Seems like a good app so far. I like that they made a bookmarklet available, so we don’t have to exclusively use the in-app browser to add recipes. One thing that quite bugs me: I wish you didn’t have to enter Edit mode to do everything… things like categories, ratings, difficulty, et al should be editable by default. One things that also quite bugs me, but is much more subjective: I don’t think Futura works at all for the titles.
