Paprika Recipe Manager App Reviews

Great !!!

Great program !!! ;) One star less for the lack of full screen mode.

I live by this app!

I have been using this app for several years .. LOVE IT!!! Wondering if there’s an update coming where I could create my own “aisle” in the grocery store ..

My new kitchen partner

I have had at least 4 other recipe apps over the past 10 years. None matches the ease and portability of Paprika. I love the capacity to detect recipes on a wide variety of sites, and the ease with which I can adjust what gets captured. Scaling the recipes is a fabulous feature, as is tagging them in a variety of ways. As great as it is now, I would love to see a couple of features (sometimes I think the measure of a successful app is the number of ideas for “more” that it spawns!). Could we please share recipes with other Paprika users without having to be within airdrop range? And could you put a package price together for those of us who are loyal users?

WOW!!!!

I am simply amazed with this app!! After years of struggling with a cookbook program on my PC and another one on my iPad, I now have this one that can sync my recipes so they stay updated on both. I can’t even begin to explain how much time this is saving me!! My PC cookbook program files easily transferred into the Paprika MAC app with no problem. Then, when I purchased the app for my iPad, all of my recipes were there! So easily syncs to the Paprika cloud to keep both apps up to date. For those who think the cost of the app should cover all devices, I can only say that I’ve paid way more for several different cookbook programs over the years that did far less than this one does. Thank you so much for this awesome app!!! No regrets here!!!!

Great for daily management

I’ve been doing a lot of research (compaing Paprika, Cook’n and BigOven) and find that Paprika fits most of my needs - especially the day-to-day recipe management. I can download recipes very quickly, algortihms are great, create a a meal plan for the week and organize my shopping. And, it’s affordable. The only features (so far) that it’s missing that are really disappointing are 1) the ability to import from more file options, 2) the ability to export to a Word doc with recipe templates, 3) the ability to create customized cookbooks & print. From what I can tell, the only format to export from Paprika is in html, which then I have to cut and paste into a Word doc and it’s not formatted nicely. At this point, I will keep Cook’n desktop for archiving family recipes only (where I can export them to Word) and Paprika for day-to-day meal & recipe management.

Love it.

Love the app. Shopping lists are so much easier. Sync between devices work great! I eat better now becuase of the app. Couple suggestions 1. Allow users to add or rename aisles in grocery list. 2. Add search field for grocery list 3. If I buy an item in the grocery list, add it to pantry.

Awesome App for Mac, iPad and iPhone

The best feature is saving recipes from the web. You simply find the recipe by surfing the web and click save. Thats it. Very simple. I use Paprika to plan weekly meals. I can select which recipes I want to cook throughout the week. From the weekly plan I can build a grocery list from each recipe. When I am in the store I can check off items while in the store. If I am with my spouse, she can go to another part of the store and work off the same list. She can see which items I have in my basket and I can see which items she has in her basket. I can’t tell you how many times I have left the house without my paper grocery list. The grocery list syncs to my iPhone from my iPad or Mac. Now I always have my grocery list. Although this is not a negative comment. I kind of wish there was a way to select which days in the calendar and build a grocery list from that. Right now you have to select each invidual recipe and save to grocery list. This would be an awesome feature to have.

Waaay better than more $ apps

Paying more for an app doesn’t always mean it is better. I switch to Paprika a few months ago. I was using another recipe manager and was afraid the transition would be painful, but I was WRONG! It couldn’t have been easier to improt all of my recipes and everything! This app is very intuiitve, has some great different features, but best of all IT WORKS! Not bugs, no crashes! I would like to see the meal planning easier to use; it would be great to see recipes displayed by category and then just drag them to the day I want on the calendar. Other than that, I can’t say enough great things about this app!!

Really nice program

I switched to Paprika from Recipe Manager. Overall, I think it’s easier to use and offers solid features. One thing I don’t like is unit conversion on the Grocery List. I make a lot of cookies for a Holiday party and combine all ingredients for one master shopping list. The problem is that dry ingredients get converted from cups to quarts or gallons. I would be OK with the conversion for liquid ingredients but I don’t like this happening to dry ingredients. An option to switch units would be a good improvement.

Absolutely wonderful

I use this on my MacBook, so the timer function (which doubtless is handy if one is using an iPhone or iPad in the kitchen) is not much use to me. But everthing else is wonderful. I have downloaded and hand-entered many recipes now, and my experience is quite positive. I had been saving recipes as Word documents in a Recipes folder, and of course one faces the problem of conversion. Paprika Recipe Manager (PRM) does have an import function, but I have taken this approach: any new recipe goes into PRM from the outset, and whenever I use one of my old recipes, I bring it over to PRM, creating a new recipe and using copy and paste for ingredients and method. It’s trivially easy, and over time the old recipes I use move into PRM. The scaling function turns out to be very useful. For example, I have a recipe for lamb meatballs that calls for 1 lb ground lamb, but my supermarket sells ground lamb prepackaged in 12-oz packages, so I just scaled the recipe to 3/4. The more I use PRM, the moer I like it. The Menu planner turns out to be very handy in practice: when I want to make a recipe, I can easily drag it to a day where I’ve not yet planned a meal, scheduling it. The shopping list function works well: you see all ingredients for the recipe, and you can uncheck those you have on hand, then add the remainder to your shopping list. A shopping list can consist of ingredients needed for several recipes: you just add the recipes one by one. Great program. Very happy with it.

Beware multiple purchases

While the app is great, I was unaware before purchasing that you will need to purchase a version for EACH device. That means three separate payments if you want to use it on your Mac, your iPhone and your iPad. The ability to synch between devices is great, and very useful if you want to have your shopping list on your phone, but you are going to pay for it...

Great but Frustrating

I have been using Paprika for several years now, I love the functionality of it. My only issue is that I have been required to PURCHASE it for each of my devices—this is frustrating. I have now spent around $40 for an app—that while it is good—I don’t think it’s $40 good. How did this happen? I started with my iPad, and then down the road my iPhone. It never showed up as “purchased” so I could just transfer the purchase over. Same just now—installing it on my Mac—somehow I have it on my iPad and my iPhone, but yet it DOES NOT SHOW UP AS A PURCHASED APP!! Grr!

Best I’ve tried

The best of the many apps that I have tried so far. Transferring over my cookbook was fairly painless. The only option I would like to see added is “recenty opened”, giving easy access to the last 5 or so recipes opened. As others have warned, you do need to purchase a separate copy for iMac, iPad, and iPhone. Still, I find that it is worth it to be able to look up a recipe while I am in a store and find a main ingredient on sale.

A pretty good replacement for my defunct recipe program

My old program is no longer keeping up with modern computers, so I had to let it go. I’ve been working with Paprika, moving my recipes over, and I am really impressed with some things, but there are some glaring omissions. The recipe browser is awesome. Importing recipes right off the internet is really easy. I can’t praise that highly enough. Good work! It makes importing my own recipes much easier. But the printing is really primitive, so if I wanted to print off a sheet or a recipe card (because sometimes working off a nice big recipe card instead of a little phone is just easier) you can’t do much formatting. And there’s no “duplicate recipe” command, so if you wanted to save a scaled version o f a recipe, like a 8 x 8 version of the pan of cornbread and an 8 x 13 version, you have to work it out separately and type both in, you can’t just copy the recipe and make changes. If you want to make a cupcake master and then copy it to put in all your cupcake variations, you can’t, you again have to recopy all your recipes in over and over. I suppose you could export it and then import it again and again, but why no copy? And you can’t seem to add things into the pantry that aren’t already on their pantry list, so you can’t have sorghum molasses on your pantry list, because it isn’t on theirs, which is weird, because this program doesn’t do nutritional analysis, so why the limitation? It is a good program, but not yet a great program. Oh, and delete recipe is really inconvenient. I kept accidentally installing duplicate recipes and then to delete the dupes was really annoying. ***If these problems are fixed, I promise to come back and update my review.****

Good, needs a few tweaks; devs mark requested features “Solved” when they are not

I love this app, and use it to help teach cooking classes. The recent changes to web site imports are a great addition. However due to the devs marking feature requests as “Solved” when they clearly aren’t, I’ve lowered my rating to 3 stars. Due to the fact that most cookbooks and cooking web sites include a Description field, Paprike badly needs a “Description” field in each recipe which should appear at the top of the recipe page and at the top of printouts. This field would hold information such as the basic description and ingredient requirements. These don’t really fit in the Notes field at the bottom of the recipe. Here is an example description: "This simple, fresh-tasting asparagus soup is paired with hearty crab crostini, which are updated versions of open-faced crab melts. Choose slender stalks of asparagus for this dish. Sweeter and less fibrous than the thick ones, they will produce a lovely, silky soup when puréed." Also, the fact that the default behavior is for ALL the main dropdown categories to always be expanded makes it hard to browse other categories, especially after adding a few sorely needed main categories such as “Breads”, "Rubs Marinades & Sauces”, “Crock Pot”, and “Want To Try” and sub-catagories such as “”Candies”, "Puddings”, “Ices/Ice Creams”, “Crisps”, etc whch fit into the desert category but not into existing sub-categories. I’ve found no way to make it remember that I want the main categories to default to the collapsed state. I submitted both of these as requested features a year ago and resubmited the request for a “Description” field a week ago. The developers marked the requests as “Solved” even though they aren’t. BAD DEVS, BAD!

Very functional!!!

I love this app! It is so versatile and the biggest thing I like about it is that if I find any recipe on the web, Paprika can download it and save it with a picture and everything with all of the pertinent details! You can categorize recipes however you’d like. This app is well worth the money if you are looking for something to quickly condense and organize all of your recipes.

Great! But add custom grocery aisle ordering

Great app. Took a chore that took me atleast half an hour (finding meals, making grocery list, sorting it) and it now takes me 5 minutes. The only thing that I think could be better is to make it so you can custom sort the aisles in the grocery list. Some other apps have this feature, and I think it would be simple to implement and make a big difference.

Worth every penny: The perfect digital recipe box!

This application is superb. If you are obsessive about having all your recipes in one single, easy to use location, this is it. The user interface is great, and the ability to sync with iphone and ipad app (sold separately) make it seemless for cooking, grocery shopping, and meal planning. The price tag for the desktop version is a bit high, but it is absolutely worth it.

Not bad, but not great either

Overall, I like this app. it’s biggest strength I’ve seen so far is its ability to directly import recipes from many different websites. The app does seem a bit buggy though. I occasionally get a crash when executing some tasks and then trying to Undo the change. User interface is decent, but certainly not pushing any design boundaries.

bad service

Although I like the app I purchased it 3 days before their annual Thanksgiving Day sale. I have sent two messges asking if they would credit the difference on my purchase and they have not even bothered to respond and it has been a full week. Really disappointed.
